It's Apple Picking Time!

We have lots of stuff going on in our little village, between the weekend Farmers Market, a 150 year old fantastic Country Store, Shelburne Museum which is a true gem for any crafter and lover of antiques, I can spend hours looking at the antique quilt collection and the embroidery sampler collection (my favorite), Shelburne Farms and Inn with grounds designed by Fredrick Olmsted who was the landscape designer for Central Park in NYC, Friday night music and burgers at the Bread and Butter Farm, Shelburne Beach, gorgeous Bay Park, The Lake, Shelburne Pond and endless walking trails I must say that apple picking is one of my all time favorite things to do!

Driving down the road to the orchard is a so lovely, the trees are already turning and Autumn is settling in, you can feel the chill in the air and I was bundled up today with a sweater and boots!

On the way home we stopped at the beach and just sat and looked out at the horizon for a while, it was such a great day.

We have a new slipcover, it's a lovely shade of grey, the white slipcover needed cleaning and will come out again next spring, the new slipcover is from Ikea, it's made to fit our Ektorp Sofa and I was super lucky to find it in the sale bin, the fabric is nice and thick and has a little bit of a "denim" quality, it's perfect, we were so happy to discover that all our pillows looked great on it and I didn't have to sew any new ones.

I found some blue rose vintage pillow cases in our local thrift shop, I swear my grandma had these when I was little.

Our son's room got a little face lift and it now doubles as a guest room and study since he's away in college, right now he is spending his fall semester in India through NOLS, they are now on a 45 day trek high up in the Northern Indian Himalayas going up to17,000ft elevation!

I cleared up the Hallway a bit, very soon a massive amount of coats and boots will be coming out ...it's already very cool here in Vermont.

and finally a bag of fresh picked apples, a gift from a friend, we will be going apple picking this weekend too so I'll take some pictures!

Sleepy cat, Bedroom Photos and FAQ's

If you told me 2 years ago that I will have a cat I would have never believed it...I always thought of myself as such a dog person...but when Isabel adopted us it took some time to get used to but I can now say that i'm in love! she is really so sweet and her favorite spot is on our bed...so I took the opportunity of some good light and snapped some new pictures of the bedroom.

FAQ:

1. lots of people have been asking about the bedspread, it's about 5 years old and was purchased at Urban Outfitters.

2. Our closet door is patchwork of vintage pieces of wallpaper I cut to squares and glued to the door with wallpaper paste about 7 years ago, It's coming up around the edges (as you can see I didn't do a very good job) I need to redo it or remove it...ughh..

3. Some of the bedding is vintage (I mix and Match a lot) and I also sew many of the pillow cases from fabrics I love (big rose pillow and small rosy pillow in the photo).

4. The art above the bed is by my mother, Nora Frenkel, there is a link on the left side of my blog where you can see more of her work.

5. The orange kimono on the wall was my mother's who was born in Shanghai and got it as a gift from her parents on a trip to Japan when she was 4 in the early 30's before they returned to Paris.

6. The white chest of drawers was dark brown, I painted it off white and changed the top knobs.

A homemade Wedding

Yesterday we attended the beautiful wedding of Nick and Christine, this is the first wedding of one of our friends kids! The lovely event took place at their beautiful backyard in Burlington, it was a perfect day, the gorgeous raspberry cake was baked by our friend Geoff (the dad) who is an amzing cook, the food was a good old fashioned barbecue complete with smoked ribs, corn bread and wonderful sweet local corn, the lovely favors were little bags of yummy homemade cookies, there was a photo booth and dancing and just plain all around laid back fun.

And for those who follow my blog, I am happy to say that our son Jonathan has safely arrived at the base camp at the foot of the Himalayas after a 20 hr flight to New Delhi and a 12 hr bus ride up north.
